Liuhe Quan emphasizes the development of the external (外功) and the internal (内功) of the flexible (软功) and of the strength (硬功), with these in harmony, the skills of combat can be achieved and health can also be maintained.

The classics of Liuhe Quan emphasize that Liuhe is a co-ordinate system, essentially representing directions as space as well as the past and future which is called time, together they six coordinations (liuhe). The unification of forward, backwards, left, right, up and down are called six harmonies (liuhe). Therefore the fundamental aspect is understanding the interplay between Yin and Yang, rising and falling, stillness and movement, these area also the six aspects (liuhe).

Liuhe Quan was brought by exiled warrior known as Zhang Ming who sought refuge in Balizhuang village. There he was cared for by the Cao family, Cao Zhenpeng. He imparted the skills of Liuhequan over his final years to Cao Zhenpeng, who in turn taught his son Cao Sheng. Cao Sheng taught the methods to Li Guanming, Shi Jinke, Zhang Maolong and Shi Changchun.

Cangzhou Da Liuhe Men was founded by Li Guanming (李冠名). Whilst born in Cangzhou, his ancestral home was in Dachu village. When he was young he was sent to stay with his grandpartents, we he was fortunate enough to have to have trained in Dachu village the Tantui System with M Hui. He later studied in Botou the Liuhe System, also the Qingping sword system with M Yang and further methods with M Sun. Each of the key masters whom each taught him different high level martial arts skills. He also exchanged with many other experts as well. These all influenced his skills and the development of Da Liuhe Men

After completing his main studies, Li Guanming established the Chengxing Logistics Bureau near the Southern Gate of Cangzhou. The system was taught as training for the Protection guards that worked in the bureau, yet mostly they were family or trusted friends. Many of the them had also studied other martial arts and added to the relatively well developed methods within the Da Liuhe Men system.

Li Guanming and the Chengxing Logistics Security Bureau became renowned for their skills, strength, ethic and capability, that all Security Bureau’s that passed the area had to lower their flags in respect of Da Liuhe Men, it was from then that the saying ” 镖不喊沧” (the banners shall not be raised when crossing Cangzhou) originated, also making Cangzhou famous for their martial arts prowess.
