回龙拳
Liuhe Hui Long Quan Dragon Boxing
Hui Long Quan (回龙拳, Hui’s Dragon Boxing) is an interesting boxing method, it was sometimes also known as Hua Long Quan (华龙拳/化龙拳). There are two key theories to this set of practice:
Legend: Huilong Quan was known as Hua Long Quan, and previously as Tianfang Quan. In folklore it is said that Hualong Quan originated in Mecca, that the journey throughout the middle east and the silk road was filled with risks which resulted in the development of fighting skills. Thus, the ancients developed the Tianfang martial arts. During the the Tang dynasty when the trade and engagement of the Arab countries increased, much of the culture was brought to China including the Tianfang boxing methods.
With subsequent migration and settlement of the Hui people, these methods were spread throughout different parts such as Gansu, Lanzhou, Xinjiang and then into Chang’an (Xi’an) and the interior such as Kaifeng, Cangzhou and regions of the Hui community. The combination of the Hui methods and those of China were then called Hui (Hui community) and Long (Han known as the descendants of the dragon), thus Huilong Quan.
The principles of Huilong Quan focuses on what is known as Kaimen Jinshen Da (开门近身打,Open he gates, close in and strike), as a result Huilong Quan emphasizes rapid movement whilst deflecting, passing by incoming attacks and then forcefully crushing the opponent.
